The playbook

Old Dominion University Sports commissioned a range of design projects, including schedules, team spotlights, and promotional materials. As a graphic design intern, I worked with the Athletic Marketing team to create dynamic visuals such as social media assets, event posters, and other content that supported the university's branding and fan engagement. I also designed graphics featuring Olympians and NFL players, helping to spotlight their achievements and elevate the visibility of ODU’s athletic programs.

  • Role – Graphic Designer

    Year – 2023, 2024

Client – Old Dominion University Athletics Department

    Softwares – Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator

  • I was responsible for creating graphic designs that not only adhered to the cohesive and established university branding guidelines but also maintained a distinct, creative edge to ensure each piece stood out on its own. This often involved balancing consistency with innovation, all while working under tight deadlines and managing quick turnaround times. Whether designing promotional materials, social media assets, or event graphics, my goal was to produce visuals that were both aligned with the overall brand and impactful in capturing the attention of the intended audience.

Content creation

I was responsible for designing both print and digital materials for the department, including schedules, flyers, social media graphics, and promotional assets. While digital media continues to grow, print remains essential for audience engagement in a university setting. Each design was crafted to balance strong visuals with clear messaging, align with the university’s branding, and effectively promote events or share important information. My digital work included creating content tailored for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the university’s website, with designs optimized for each format and audience. Working closely with the marketing team, I ensured a cohesive visual identity across all media, supporting fan engagement and the athletic calendar.

“Vaughn worked for me as a Graphic Design and Video Intern while I was the Director of Social Media at Old Dominion University. Vaughn showed great professionalism while he worked in office and great initiative. Vaughn learned how to shoot video on the fly, as we needed more videographers. He took this challenge head on and become a very capable member of our video team. Vaughn really stood out as a designer. Vaughn was able to design off detailed creative briefs and off of one or two simple directions. He always created crisp, clean, and consistent graphics. Vaughn was someone we could rely on to not only get the job done but go above and beyond our expectations. One of his graphics that was posted to the main ODUSports channel received over 100% the normal interactions and impressions.

I would absolutely recommend Vaughn to anyone looking for a designer.”
